Self Love Requires Honesty | #SLS

I've come to realize, the hard way, that I've had and still have a lot of healing to do! Self Love is not an overnight thing *insert Percy Sledge song*. It takes time to reach a comfortable level of contentment with self. It's a journey; one of upward toil but one of positive growth. In our journey of Self Love, it is integral that we seek to know ourselves, accept who we are and live freely in our truth.  In seeking to know and embrace our truest selves, a process of self reflection and introspection helps. The trauma; experiences that we go through have fashioned us into the persons that we are today. Our personalities, our self esteem; the way we interact with others, our imposed standards, our expectations are all influenced by the way we see ourselves; by the way we think and feel about ourselves. It's 'human nature' to first be negative before positive and unappreciative before we see good, so in order to change our thinki...

Cupcake.D.Lab: ❤ Hibiscus Skin Firming & Hydrating Facial ❤

Hey Beauties!!

I grew up with a Hibiscus tree/plant in my yard, and I'd always go pick one for my hair. That tree no longer exists, but a family friend, very recently, decided to bring a few flowers to the house. I looked at them, admired them and almost immediately I thought, "I wonder if Hibiscus flowers are good for the skin?"

Well you can easily guess what happened next... I Googled it, found a ton load of Hibiscus Skin Benefits, asked that friend to get more flowers, and now I'm sharing with you, one of the Natural Skin Treatments that I concocted. :)

It's really exciting how good Hibiscus flowers are for the skin! I learned that it is coined the "Botox Plant/Flower" because of it's skin firming abilities. Many skincare product companies also use Hibiscus in their products for its skin-loving benefits. In fact, NewBeauty.com in their article, The Healing Power of Flowers had the following to say about the Hibiscus Flower.
Hibiscus: Revives skin and acts as an exfoliator and antioxidant.
Commonly used in Ayurvedic practices and a key ingredient in Chinese medicine, the hibiscus flower effectively revives the skin since it's plentiful in anti-aging alphahydroxy acids (AHA) and amino acids.
The skin-perfecting benefits of hibiscus are endless - it exfoliates, protects against premature aging, tones, firms, hydrates, and controls oil production - and is sometimes used in anti-cellulite creams and serums.
Hibiscus is also revered for it's scalp-replenishing and blood circulation-stimulation abilities. Indian women, known for their superthick, long and shiny hair, frequently use oil from the flower as an intense hair treatment.
Okay, Wonderful! Now lets get into our Spa Day Treat!

❤ Hibiscus Skin Firming & Hydrating Facial ❤

You'll Need:

INGREDIENTS

1 Heaping Cup of Hibiscus Petals
1/8 Cup of Lemon Juice
2 Tablespoons Pure/All Natural Coconut Oil

EQUIPMENT

Blender or Food Processor
Measuring Spoons
Glass Jar
A Dense Face Brush

METHOD

To prepare the hibiscus flowers for use in the facial, I took apart each petal and washed them with water to get rid of any insects that might have been lurking in them.

I used about 3 hibiscus flowers and got a good handful of petals. You can measure just about a heaping cup of petals for the facial.

I first added the petals to the blender. You can also use a food processor. No additional water is needed. When mashed the flower is of a jelly consistency. This along with the other ingredients will help to bind the facial.

I picked the only lemon I could find from our Rough Lemon (a draft of lemon and orange) tree in the backyard.

You'll need just about 1/8 of a cup of Lemon Juice.
The lemon juice in this facial will help to brighten the skin and even the skin tone as it exfoliates (citric acid property) to diminish scars and age spots.
Lemon juice also has natural antibacterial properties which help to combat acne and prevent breakouts.

Pour the Lemon juice into the blender/food processor.

We're adding Coconut Oil to our hibiscus facial because of it's
Lauric Acid content.
Lauric acid has strong disinfecting and antimicrobial properties which would protect the skin from microbial infections.
Coconut oil also contains Vitamin E which facilitates the healthy growth of skin, keeping it smooth and well nourished.
Overall, Coconut oil would help to soften and repair the skin, while delaying the skin's aging process.

You'll only need 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil for the Hibiscus facial. Pour this into the blender/food processor.

Blend all ingredients together on medium speed until smooth.

Voila!! Now you can pour your
Hibiscus Skin Firming & Hydrating Facial
into a glass jar for future use.
I recommend keeping your facial refrigerated.
It will last as long as the lemon juice remains fresh; that's about a week. You can opt to omit the lemon juice and the facial will last 2 weeks.
Refrigeration of the facial might make it firm because coconut oil gets firm when cold.

When applying the facial, I use just about a teaspoon full and that works for my entire face, neck, and décolleté area.
I use a dense brush to apply the facial and to gently massage it into the skin.
Clean fingers can also be used.
When using the facial out of the refrigerator, I scoop out a teaspoon full, and let that sit for a few minutes so the coconut oil can melt.
The facial can also be heated for about 10-15 seconds in the microwave before application.

I always ensure that my pores are open (with a face steam or hot water rag) prior to application of many of the facials I make.
I encourage the same with this one, for maximum skin absorption.

I also recommend leaving on the facial until it dries completely.
Dry time might be just around 10 minutes.
It may be longer depending on how much you decide to apply to the skin.

Your skin will feel smooth and supple after rinsing off the facial completely with warm water and a gentle cleanser!

These pictures are not the best representation of the application because they were captured in the night with a low quality camera but you can see that the facial is red. :)
This facial may stain fabric so it's best that you wear suitable clothing.
