Self Love Requires Honesty | #SLS

I've come to realize, the hard way, that I've had and still have a lot of healing to do! Self Love is not an overnight thing *insert Percy Sledge song*. It takes time to reach a comfortable level of contentment with self. It's a journey; one of upward toil but one of positive growth. In our journey of Self Love, it is integral that we seek to know ourselves, accept who we are and live freely in our truth.  In seeking to know and embrace our truest selves, a process of self reflection and introspection helps. The trauma; experiences that we go through have fashioned us into the persons that we are today. Our personalities, our self esteem; the way we interact with others, our imposed standards, our expectations are all influenced by the way we see ourselves; by the way we think and feel about ourselves. It's 'human nature' to first be negative before positive and unappreciative before we see good, so in order to change our thinki...

Worlds of Curls Product Reviews

Since I have naturally kinky-curly hair, I decided to try two products from the Worlds of Curls brand to see how they'll work for me. I purchased both the Curl Activator and the Curly Pudding.

These type of products are known to either define curls or stretch them out but after reading many product reviews, I've come to realize that the outcomes are different from person to person given the different hair types, techniques of use and styling. Let's Start with the Curl Activator!

Worlds of Curls Curl Activator

This products claims to be 3 steps in one; Curl Activator, Conditioner and Oil Sheen. It advertises that it's for extra dry hair.
I've had this product for more than a year. I purchased a 32oz container, deciding that I'd try all the possible ways to use this product.

On the back of the container, it says:

Worlds of Curls Curl Activator (for extra dry hair) is another key step in Our Total Hair Care Maintenance System. Worlds of Curls Activator starts to work instantly; Stimulating and Locking your hair into Lustrous curls without leaving it chalky or sticky. The (Gel) Curl Activator, Conditioner, and Oil Sheen (3 steps in one) is especially formulated to Moisturize, Condition and allow while helping to prevent split ends and breakage in Relaxed Hair and Cold Waves. Leaves your hair Soft & Curly, Tangle-Free and with a Healthy Sheen in only one application."
For best results use the gel curl activator and our Worlds of Curls Comb-Out spray together.
  1. Spray with our World of Curls Comb-Out, massage thoroughly into the hair and scalp.
  2. Apply a moderate amount of curl activator, massage thoroughly into the hair and scalp.
  3. Comb or pick into desired style.
As a hot oil curl activator, follow steps (1 & 2) then cover the head with hot steaming towels or a heating cap. Wait two or three minutes and style as desired. Also use as a Wave Activator.
Ingredients
Water (Aqua) , Glycerin , Propylene Glycol , PEG-60 Lanolin , Triethanolamine , Carbomer , Fragrance , Imidazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Phosphoric Acid , Yellow #5 (CI 19140) , Red #33 (CI 17200) , Blue # 1 (CI 42090) , Red #4 (CI 14700)

My Experience

I've used Curl Activator more than 10 times.
I apply it to clean, freshly washed, wet hair.
Prior to application (while my hair is still wet) most times, I spray it with my moisture mixture (will do a blog post soon) and add additional oils to lock in moisture.
I apply a generous amount to small sections of my hair, twist the sections then apply a tidbit of oil to each twist.
I usually do this style at night and then tie/cover my head and go right to sleep. In the morning, I separate my twists. My twists are moisturized and lustrous, they look silky and healthy.

I don't have to reapply any product or oil because my hair has just enough moisture. Sometimes I quickly spray it with my hair spray and go about my day.
At the end of the first day, my hair is still moisturized and the Twist-Out is still defined.
Day two, my hair can just be spritzed with water or my moisture mixture and with low manipulation, I still have a great style.
Day three may call for the reapplication of a small amount of Curl Activator and some changes to the style to suite it's now, more stretched out state (still defined though!).
This product does not clump or flake. It does not discolour or cause my hair to break.
I've never tried a Wash-&-Go with this product - frankly I'm too timid to try Wash-&-Go's because of the possible shrinkage and drying... But many times I've combed out my twist outs, applying more product and pull my hair into a puff...that seems to work.

I'm quite satisfied with this product and I'll recommend it to anyone who's will to give it a try.

Worlds of Curls Curly Pudding

According to the container, this product contains Milk Protein and Honey. It looks like vanilla pudding and smells slightly citrus.
The container also states that it "Enhances Waves & Curls", it's "Non Flaking" and it "Adds Shine"... "For Soft Shiny Frizz Free Curls.
I've also had this product for more than a year. I purchased a 15.2oz container, deciding that I'd try all the possible ways to use this product.

On the container, it says:

Worlds of Curls Curly Pudding is enhanced with Milk Protein and Honey. Great for transitioning to natural styles. Controls frizz. Non-Flaking. Transforms kinks to shiny stretched out curls. Formulated for naturally curly, kinky & wavy hair. No more curl shrinkage. Maximizes curl length & makes your curly styles last longer. Adds superior shine & healthy luster.
For Best Elongation: Apply nickel sized dollop to small sections of clean wet hair. Comb  from roots to ends and air dry for definition. Re-apply as often as desired.
For Touchups: Apply a small amount to the palm and work through the hair. Comb or brush through to distribute.
 Ingredients

My Experience

I apply this product to clean, freshly washed, moisturized hair for my twist out styles. As the label would suggest, this product is quite different to the Curl Activator... This elongates the hair while the activator helps to really define the curls.

My experience with this product has not really been a fantastic one. I do not like the feel lf it when applied to the hair without any other products or oils. There is a chalky feel rather than one with lots of slip. I've never followed the instructions of the label and used it on it's own. I prefer to use some Argan oil for slip.

A few times I've experience some flaky- granule like bits (more the look of grains of sand) when I used this products with oils... and this was the morning after styling. It seems like it was made for use on it's own.

I've had some success with this product. When I apply it, my twist-outs take a longer time to dry and most of the time they come out puffy. I make the style work, though the original style doesn't last more than two days.

I found that holding my big puffy twist-outs up in a puff works well when the twist-out turn out to be less than desired.

I still have much of the product left so I'll give the Elongation a try and tell you how it works.

I'm not in love with this so I won't recommend it.

Check out my Review video for these two products:

Feel free to tell me how any of these products worked for you and even give me some other Curly Pudding and Curl Activator options to choose from that were great for you. I heard Eco Styler is great, maybe I'll try it next!

Thanks again for reading!!
